The Concept

THE COFFEE EXPERIENCE

Palácio do Visconde – The Coffee Experience takes place in two palaces
of the century XIX that were carefully restored to provide a sensorial journey through the history and art of artisanal coffee, from the factory to the
cup, passing through the pillow.

It is in this historical environment that we want to provide those who visit us with a
truly picturesque experience in which everyone feels invited by the
“Viscount of Coffee”, lord of the palaces, on a journey through time to the
19th century bourgeois Lisbon, where the coffee industry was bubbling and cultural life unfolded in the noble halls under its aroma.

Whether you come to sleep or take a guided tour of the block, you can enjoy our freshly roasted coffee.

We are sure that this will be an unforgettable experience.

Viscondessa Suite

Lady of the palaces, the first suite is hers.
Irreverent yet feminine, this suite is a representation of the roaring 20's, which dictate the emancipation of women, the end of neoclassicism and the beginning of art-nouveau.

The newest trends of Paris are mirrored in the elements of the most iconic suite in the entire property.

Junior Suite

He married the Damsel, daughter of the Viscounts. He is a gallant bourgeois gentleman with a neat mustache and a Parker pen in his tailcoat pocket.

With the end of the Monarchy, he was forced to find a way to subsidize his expensive tastes, which is why he helped the Viscount to found the Negrita Factory in 1923 in the stables of the palaces.

Coffee was in vogue and so was he!

Be amazed! Our Viscount was intimate with King D. Carlos and it was known that they went hunting together in the Alentejo plains where the former was born.

Double Room

It is said that in one of his expeditions to Africa to select the best coffee beans, Fidalgo Burguês was enchanted by the beauty of the African woman.

Sargento-Mor

Superior Room

According to the legend, the first coffee plants arrived in Brazil at the hands of Sergeant Major Francisco Palheta at the behest of King D. João V and the Portuguese Governor in Brazil.

The Sergeant Major was sent to French Guiana with a secret order to hide with “all disguise and caution” local coffee seeds to take them to Brazil.

The French Governor who was responsible for taking care of French interests in the French Guiana region took all measures to ensure that the coffee secret remained within France's sphere of power, not giving the Sergeant Major any chance to fulfill his mission.

Between 1760 and 1762, the Judge João Alberto Castelo Branco planted some coffee seeds in Rio de Janeiro from the first plantations of Pára. From there, the coffee plantations started cutting down the bush, opening roads, establishing settlements and creating wealth, exploiting the virgin soil rich in nutrients, reaching the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Senhor Pina

Superior Room

The history of Senhor Pina is intertwined with the history of Fábrica Negrita as he is responsible for bringing the Negrita and Carioca brands from the time of the Fidalgo Burguês to the present day.

Talking to Senhor Pina is like opening an old book and giving life to the Queirozian description of the people who were at the origin of the factory.

All conversations are, above all, a privilege and an immense joy that fascinates us with every word.

Escritor

Double Room

Assiduous visit to the palaces, the Writer hid behind his spyglass a passionate look and a shy smile.

He always said that the garden inspired him, but we know that it was the Damsel's presence that made the pen advance on the paper. Find in this room an intimate and romantic atmosphere that embodies the Writer and his platonic passion for the Maiden.

* In the presentation of the rooms still under renovation, project images were used.

** Most of the characters correspond to real people who were part of the formation of the mansions and/or the history of the café. However, we warn against the fact that the description of the characters is romanticized.
